About Islamic Relief Pakistan
Islamic Relief commenced operations in Pakistan in 1992, secured a registration with Security & Exchange Commission of Pakistan in 1994 as a company limited by guarantee (Local NGO).
Islamic Relief is also registered with the Economic Affairs Division, Ministry of Finance, Government of Pakistan.
Initially the organization started operation with following interventions:
-One to One Orphans Sponsorship
-Emergency and Relief
-Seasonal Projects - Qurbani (Meat distribution during Eid-Ul-Adha) and Ramadan (Food distribution during the holy month of Ramadan) By 2001 activities expanded and started to get momentum and increased in thematic and geographical areas coverage and since then IR in Pakistan is focusing on the
following sectors:
i. Sustainable Development Programme
Sustainable Livelihoods
Health and Nutrition
Water & Sanitation
Education
ii. Humanitarian Aid Programme
Emergency Relief Response
Disaster Preparedness
iii. Child Welfare Programme
Orphans Sponsorship
Child Protection and Well being
Islamic Relief used an intensive Social Mobilization as a programme implementation approach, a cross cutting issue and foundation for any community / program / project
intervention.
For over last few years IR in Pakistan has gained wide recognition and reputation among the communities that it works with, the host government and the international agencies working in the country. This had increased during the response to the Earthquake of 8th
October 2005, where the organization was taking the lead in some of the localities of Kashmir. In 2009 Islamic Relief Worldwide completed its 25 years and in Pakistan it is the 15th year for the organization in country since its registered locally, serving the marginalized people mainly in the rural parts of country i.e. Baluchistan and Kashmir and also with focus on disadvantaged communities in urban areas such as Rawalpindi.
